Origins & Heritage:
Handcrafted by the Bambara artisans of Mali, mudcloth (bogolanfini) is one of Africa’s most revered textile traditions. Each piece is woven from locally grown cotton, then dyed using fermented river mud and plant extracts — a process passed down through generations. How It’s Made
Weaving: Cotton threads are hand‑spun and woven on narrow looms into long strips, then stitched together.

Dyeing: The cloth is first soaked in a natural yellow dye from the n’galama tree.

Mud Painting: Artisans paint patterns using fermented mud collected from riverbanks. The mud reacts with the dye, turning the painted areas deep black.

Washing & Sun‑Drying: The cloth is washed and dried under the sun, revealing its distinctive colour contrast.

Cultural Significance:
Traditionally worn during rites of passage, hunting, and ceremonies, mudcloth serves as a visual language.
